I got this book at the same time I got "Recessional." "Rascals" reads like a history book: fascinating history, but it seems so concentrated on relaying all the facts that the fascinating part gets lost in the details. I compared it to "Recessional" and found that the novel's characters were named frequently in the story-telling, while I often had to page back In "Rascals"to see who was acting and who was being acted upon.I have just read two of the characters in "Rascals;" I hope the others will read better. Thought this was going to be a sweeping saga (like Hawaii), but instead it’s a series of stand alone stories about South Pacific pirates and rogues from the great ‘sailing ship’ days.The first story was fairly decent, (about piracy aboard a whaling ship) but it seemed to end too soon and too abruptly. After that, the subsequent stories failed to catch my imagination at all……and I gave up at 40%.
